# Into a Hidden Himalayan Kingdom

**Discovering the Kingdom of Bhutan**

Bhutan is an almost entirely mountainous nation set in the Eastern Himalayas, known for its striking architecture, monasteries and prayer flags, vast landscapes, and welcoming people. It is home to some of the world's most pristine and protected environments, with forests covering more than 70% of the country.

**Punakha Valley**

We begin our retreat in Punakha, where we spend three nights practising yoga and settling into the rhythm of the journey. From here, we hike to Chimmi Lhakhang, also known as the Divine Madman Temple, and up to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Temple, which overlooks the valley and offers wide, open views. We'll also visit the impressive Punakha Dzong and gain insight into Bhutan's Buddhist culture.

**The Phobjikha Valley**

We then travel to the Phobjikha Valley for three nights. This is a quieter, more remote part of the country, surrounded by mountains and open space. While here, we visit Gangtey Monastery, dating back to the 17th century, and walk a scenic nature trail through the valley. There is also time for meditation, rest, and optional treatments in a peaceful setting.

**Thimphu**

Next, we head to Thimphu, the capital, where we stay for two nights. Here, we practise yoga, explore the city, and hike in the surrounding hills, including routes to Sangaygang viewpoint and the Dodeydra Monastery.

**Paro and Tiger's Nest**

Our final two nights are spent in Paro. We stay in a beautiful nature-based resort, with time to enjoy the spa and slow down after our journey. From here, we take on the pilgrimage to Tiger's Nest Monastery, one of Bhutan's most iconic sites. Set high on a sheer cliff face, the monastery is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the country and offers a fitting final experience to the trip.
