A retreat on Denmark’s northern coast
Our retreat takes place in Skagen, where you’ll stay in one of the area’s oldest and most characterful hotels, set in a peaceful coastal setting surrounded by sand dunes, open land, and protected nature. Long associated with artists drawn to its distinctive light and coastal life, Skagen offers some of Denmark’s most striking scenery and carries a deep creative heritage.
Our accommodation sits just a short walk from the beach, with wide views across the dunes and landscape stretching as far as the eye can see. Here, the noise of everyday life falls away, replaced by birdsong, wind moving through long grass, and the steady presence of the sea.
A gentle daily rhythm
Mornings begin with energising yoga designed to awaken the body and senses and gently prepare you for time outdoors. Your morning yoga sessions take place in a beautiful studio with views out toward the dunes, grounding each day in movement and breath. Breakfast follows, unhurried and nourishing, before we head out to explore.
Walking the shifting sands
On Saturday, we’ll walk through the surrounding landscape to Råbjerg Mile, Northern Europe’s largest migrating sand dune. Along the way, guided storytelling brings the natural environment to life and deepens our understanding of this ever-shifting terrain.
For those who feel drawn to it, there will be the option of sea bathing, offering a bracing and clarifying contrast to the stillness of the day. In the evening, we’ll gather for a tasting dinner at a renowned local restaurant, known for its refined approach to Danish cuisine and, if the skies are clear, a silent stargazing beach walk home.
Where two seas meet
Sunday takes us to Grenen, the northernmost point of mainland Europe, where two seas meet. This dramatic stretch of beach, shaped by strong currents and constantly moving sand, is both powerful and contemplative. The landscape around Grenen is a protected nature reserve and home to many different types of plants and animals.
We’ll walk along the shoreline, take in the scale of the place, and enjoy lunch nearby before continuing on to the Grey Lighthouse. Climbing to the top is rewarded with panoramic views across Grenen and back toward Skagen, while the exhibition below offers insight into the region’s birdlife and seasonal migrations.
In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Swedish Seamen’s Church for a guided introduction, followed by a yoga practice in this peaceful and distinctive setting.
Art, light and creative heritage
On Monday, after our morning yoga practice and breakfast, we’ll spend the day exploring Skagen’s artistic heritage. We’ll visit the Skagen Museum, home to the world-famous Skagen Painters, whose work was shaped by the area’s unique light and close relationship with the sea.
Lunch will be enjoyed in town before an afternoon visit to Skagen Art House, a contemporary space where past and present meet. Here, you’ll have time to explore the exhibitions at your own pace before settling into a yoga session among the artworks, allowing movement, art and place to quietly intersect.
Space to slow down
This retreat is intentionally spacious and contemplative, shaped by autumn light, open landscapes and a sense of stepping slightly outside of time. It offers space to walk, to reflect, to move gently, and to reconnect with a quieter rhythm through nature, creativity and shared experience.
