David Kam

David is a queer Malaysian movement artist based in London, who shares embodied practices of joy, connection and liberation. Blending the worlds of architecture, dance and yoga, David pitches movement as an expression of both party and protest. He believes that movement can be a medium for us to find home in our bodies and a springboard towards engaging in collective action and trans-generational healing.

As an educator, David lectures at globally renowned dance conservatoires specialising in choreological studies and yoga for professional movers. Beyond academia, David shares movement masterclasses, workshops and retreats internationally, if not at local studios in East London. He contributes his expertise in yoga to various movement communities including the Ferus Animi / Terra Nova collective.

Class is never prescriptive with David, but a journey comprising multiple points of departure to move from a place of ‘What If?’ to ‘Why Not?’. Every session is people-centred, a unique gathering to practise gratitude and collectively explore the expressive possibilities of movement in ourselves and with one another. David is most invested in the feeling of movement beyond form and technique, and the power of play in enabling choice from a place of self dare.

In the context of social justice, David founded kindredpacket, a grassroots movement uplifting East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) communities through nature walks and seasonal gatherings. He also delivers active bystander trainings as part of his work with Britain’s East and Southeast Asian Network to combat identity-based violence. David is a proud facilitator for We Create Space, a global platform advocating wellness for queer leaders.
